It is bounded in the south by that part of the Atlantic coast called the Bight of Bonny. The extension of the University territory to the Atlantic coast is informed by the fact that it will have a School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, with a ship building yard and a dry dock.

Besides the host Local Government Areas mentioned above, the other immediate neighbouring LGAs are Onna, Ikot Abasi, and Eket. Ikot Abasi, the southwest apex of the triangular Akwa Ibom Technology Corridor, is the site of Aluminium Smeltimg Plant, the proposed oil refinery and the Akwa Ibom Independent Power Plant. The southeast apex of the corridor is Eket where the vast Exxon-Mobil operational base is located, while the northern apex of the corridor is at Ntak Inyang in Itu Local Government Area, the site of the Science, Incubation and Technology Park. The University is, expected to interact closely with these and other industrial establishments towards the development of the resources of the State.
