ELEGIBILITY CRITERIA AND GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR BENEFICIARIES OF THE AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSTIY OF TECHNOLOGY (AKUTECH) GRADUATE TRAINING SCHEME

 

(1)      Application forms for the Training Scheme are obtainable from www.akutech.net (within the advertised period).

 

(2)      A candidate must have successfully completed the compulsory National Youth Service (NYSC) or shown evidence of exemption from the said service.

 

(3)      A candidate must be a first degree holder not below 2nd class honours (Upper Division) or a Master’s degree with not less than an average of “B” in course work from reputable Universities within and outside Nigeria.

 

(4)      The age limit for Candidates who are to pursue Masters Degrees is 30 years while those for Doctorate Degrees is 35 years. However, special consideration will be given to Candidates in priority areas of need.

 

(5)      In line with the minimum requirement of the regulatory body, Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), the terminal qualification of the Training Programme is a Doctorate Degree (PhD).

 

(6)      The academic background of prospective candidates should be Engineering, Technology or Applied Science.

 

(7)      A written Study Plan in two chosen areas of research must accompany the application before submission.

 

(8)      Shortlisted candidates must be prepared to undergo and pass an oral interview conducted by AKUTECH or its accredited representative.

         

(9)      Candidates are encouraged to sit for and pass GRE, GMAT, and TOEFL (as applicable) at acceptable level in line with the pre-registration requirement of most Universities in Canada, USA, etc.

 

(10)    Successful Candidates are advised to secure a current International Passport as this will be required for VISA application.

 

(11)    Successful Candidates are required to submit a copy of their current Curriculum Vitae (CV) and three (3) references.

 

(12)    It is the responsibility of the Candidate to ensure that his or her detailed academic transcript (s) and reference letters are directed to the Vice Chancellor, AKUTECH.

 

(13)    Successful beneficiaries must sign a bond with AKUTECH and be prepared to abide by the conditions stated therein.

 

(14)    The actual commencement date of full financial commitment by AKUTECH is dependent on (i) the beneficiary’s placement in a reputable University abroad and (ii) Trainee’s ability to meet all mandatory requirements of the relevant Embassy in Nigeria to warrant the issuance of Visa and other travel documents.

 

(15)    Candidates on paid employment prior to their selection as beneficiaries of the AKUTECH Graduate Training Scheme are strongly advised NOT to resign their employment until they are cleared by the relevant Embassy in Nigeria and issued with the necessary travel documents.

 

(16)    AKUTECH generally accepts full financial responsibility for the training of the beneficiaries while the Trainees are expected to enjoy the full scholarship status which covers tuition, subsistence, approved fees and other academic expenses for the duration of their studies.

 

(17)    Continuous remittance of funds/financial commitments by AKUTECH to the Trainee is subject to the receipt of satisfactory Progress Report of the Trainees to be supplied by the academic Supervisor and/or the Institution of study abroad.

 

(18)    The financial commitment of AKUTECH with candidates while on studies abroad does not cover their family members and dependents.

 

(19)    AKUTECH Trainees are advised to open Naira Account with any of the 25 banks in Nigeria and furnish AKUTECH with their Bank details to facilitate payment of basic salaries/allowances while on Training abroad.

 

(20)    Trainees are at liberty to visit Nigeria during vacation within the period of their studies if they so wish but at their own cost.
